It’s nearly October, the time of the year for fans of new bands, newer industry friends, free booze and little sleep. That’s right, it’s the CMJ Music Marathon, which feels like a Northeast take on Austin's annual SXSW conference. As always, the festival will take place at various venues throughout the city and will include thousands of bands with the first wave of artists and showcases announced this morning.

Some early highlights include the young and hungry (Surf Rock is Dead, the Mystery Lights, Lazyeyes, Eternal Summers), the slightly-older-but-still-recognizable heads (Shannon and the Clams, Stealing Sheep, Glass Animals, Cheatahs), the ungoogle-able (S, Pool Boy, DRINKS, Phony Ppl), the veterans (Mercury Rev, Dent May, Panda Bear, Idiot Glee) and the hilariously named (Fat Heaven, Hot Panda, METHYL ETHEL, Diet Cig, My Left Tit and family favorite Vomitface!). The party continues with showcases from powerhouse labels like Bella Union and Sub Pop, agencies like Paradigm and Windish, and assorted other entities, like Austin Psych Fest, Berklee College of Music and Brooklyn Vegan. Check the full list here.

This year’s festivities start a bit sooner than normal (Tuesday October 13 through Saturday October 17), which, according to the countdown on their landing page, is just shy of 34 days away, so rest up, people!
