It's hard to say which feat was more grueling: Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel in the early 16th century or the lengthy construction of the Oculus at the World Trade Center Transportation Hub. The former took nearly 15 years to complete and was a serious toll on the legendary artist; the latter was finished 10 years late and $2 billion over budget.
This summer, the two are coming together for an incredibly cool art installation. Dubbed Up Close: Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, the exhibit brings 34 reproductions of the Renaissance artist's iconic frescos to Westfield World Trade Center (you know, the mall that makes up most of the train station). The pieces are laid out in an immersive setting across the space, which may be the next-best thing to traveling all the way to Italy and checking out the renowned chapel in-person.
The installation runs from June 23 through July 23, and tickets start at $15. The exhibit will also be making a national tour, so if you miss it at the Oculus this summer, you could always head over to Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ, to see it in September.
