If you're heading downtown to the Tribeca Film Festival, we're here to help. Check out our picks for the 10 best movies in the lineup, as well as our guide to the best Tribeca restaurants (you'll need to eat and debate the movie afterward). But there’s a lot more than movie screenings at this year’s TFF. Here's where to rock out, stargaze and more.

RECOMMENDED: Full coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival

Tribeca Talks: J.J. Abrams with Chris Rock
Star Wars: The Force Awakens helmer Abrams sits down for a chat with Oscar host and revolutionary comedian Chris Rock to talk about the Lost-like twists and turns of Abrams’s career. (Both were outspoken in the #oscarssowhite conversation, so expect some seriousness between laughs.)
JZT @ BMCC. Fri 15 at 6pm; rush tickets only.

Hard Lovin’ Woman
Juliette Lewis has reassembled Juliette and the Licks and rejoined that eccentric pantheon of actor-led rock bands (we’re looking at you, Jared Leto). Rejoice with a screening of this doc about the group from Michael Rapaport, followed by a performance of punk-rocking insanity from the woman herself.
Tribeca Festival Hub. Fri 15 at 9pm; $43.50.

Virtual Arcade
This year, the Tribeca team has assembled a bunch of boundary-pushing virtual reality projects. Strap on a headset and plunge into the world of Invasion!, by Antz and Madagascar honcho Eric Darnell, where only you can help a bunch of adorable cartoon bunny rabbits save the world from a vicious alien attack. Or, consider delving deep into the ocean to discover how whales and dolphins communicate in The Click Effect.
Tribeca Festival Hub. Mon 18–Apr 20 noon–11pm; $43.50.

Tribeca Tune In: Series finale of Six Feet Under
Hold on. The groundbreaking TV show Six Feet Under ended…11 years ago? Damn. Revisit the Fisher family’s funeral home by watching the last episode with in-person commentary by creator Alan Ball. (Oh, and make sure you bring a few tissues for the tear-jerking final montage. That Sia song gets us every time.)
SVA 1. Tue 19 at 4:30pm; $33.50.

Daring Women Summit
Get to know the women who are killing it right now in the entertainment and tech industries—actor Rosie Perez, fashion designer Donna Karan and transgender star of last year’s excellent Tangerine, Mya Taylor, to name a few—during this all-day onslaught of panel discussions.
Tribeca Festival Hub. Apr 20 10:30am–5pm; $150.

Tribeca Tune In: The Night Of
Because there can never be enough gritty, hard-hitting crime dramas set in New York, HBO has concocted The Night Of, a miniseries launching this summer that follows the misfortunes of a man accused of murder. Get a sneak peak of the show, and stick around for a conversation with cast members, including local favorite John Turturro and Nightcrawler’s Riz Ahmed.
SVA 1. Apr 22 at 3pm; $33.20.

the bomb
Wanna freak out? There’s nothing quite like the horror of nuclear annihilation, and now, the brave and curious can experience a creeping sense of impending doom via this immersive media installation, which features live music from electro group the Acid and a floor-to-ceiling 360-degree film projection. Viewers who haven’t fled in fear can stay for a panel discussion featuring creator Eric Schlosser, author of 2013's nonfiction exposé Command and Control, recently made into a documentary (screening at the fest).
Gotham Hall. Apr 23, 24 at 7, 10pm; $35.

Geezer
If it’s not past your bedtime, watch the meta film Geezer, starring Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong as a former punk-band singer mourning his lost youth. In a case of life imitating art, the veteran rocker treats the crowd to a set after the screening.
Tribeca Festival Hub. Apr 23 at 8pm; rush tickets only.
