The streak of great Romanian films continues with cowriter-director Muntean’s deeply affecting look at a disintegrating marriage. Real-life husband and wife Mimi Branescu and Mirela Oprisor play the drifting couple, whose relationship unravels due to an affair. Brilliantly performed and shot in mesmerizing, unsettlingly quiet long takes—the sequence in which Branescu offhandedly confesses his liaison is gasp-inducing—this is a highlight of the fest’s off-the-beaten-path offerings.
