Video of the Day: Shakespeare mystery flick Anonymous

RECOMMENDED: All Shakespeare in the Park stories

Roland Emmerich blew up the White House in Independence Day, he had Godzilla tear through the streets of New York and finally he frakkin' destroyed the world—twice—in The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. But now he goes too far: Anonymous is a conspiracy fantasia about who really wrote Shakespeare's plays and sonnets (Edward De Vere, Earl of Oxford—who'd-a thunk it?). Here's your first taste of the the film, which has a September 30 release date. If you want to bone up on the history of crackpottery surrounding Bard-authorship theories, try James Shapiro's excellent 2010 survey, Contested Will. Also, scariest thing about this movie? The vast majority of people who will see Anonymous may mistake it for a docudrama.
