Food Book Fair 2013

Culinary and literary buffs alike flock to this four-day food-and-book fest, featuring more than 200 culinary tomes, ten cooking demos and six panel discussions. Opening night kicks off with a tasting fund-raiser to benefit the Rockaway Recovery and Hurricane Sandy Relief, with Brooklyn Winery vino, Brooklyn Brewery suds and bites plucked from the pages of internationalist cookbooks (Lauryn Chun’s The Kimchi Cookbook, Melia Marden’s Modern Mediterranean). Active bookworms can sign up for one of the hands-on activities, including coffee crawls in Williamsburg and foraging lessons from nature-loving toque Fredrik Berselius (Aska). The fair wraps up with a four-course feast inspired by Jean Craighead George’s My Side of the Mountain, highlighting the native wild foods of the Catskills—dishes include acorn-flour pancakes, turkey eggs and venison.
