Anyone with a passing knowledge of queer history—or anyone who's seen an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, for that matter—knows that drag is about much more than dudes clowning around in dresses. So it's fitting that the OUT NYC is giving some of the brightest stars of that scene the high-art treatment with "Why Drag?," an exhibit of eye-popping images by photographer Magnus Hastings, who has been obsessively documenting the drag arts for a decade. The show includes shots of Drag Race winner (and New Yorker) Bianca Del Rio, the shameless queens of DWV and Aussie sensation Courtney Act, among other beloved performers. It goes on view May 26 and delights hotel visitors—as well as curious passers-by—through the end of summer.
