Grace Heaven Organic Salon
Bright-yellow walls, hardwood floors and tons of fresh flowers brighten up this cozy 200-square-foot salon. Grace Heaven may be tiny, but it has made a big commitment to the environment: Not only are all the hair products organic and/or herbal, but the cleansing products are also green and free of harsh chemicals. The only downside? Services, such as a cuts (from $50 for men and $70 for women), color (from $90) and blowouts (from $30), are available by appointment only. 226 E 3rd St between Aves B and C (212-253-5490;

John Masters Organics
A visit to this environmentally friendly salon—powered by wind energy—is akin to entering an intoxicating botanical garden: The floral scents that waft in the air during the organic scalp treatment will send you into relaxed oblivion, and ammonia-free, herbal-based color treatments will appeal to your inner purist. The Soho spot boasts all-natural shampoos and conditioners (blended from plant extracts and essential oils) and avoids toxic chemicals, like ammonia and sulfates (staples in most dye treatments). 77 Sullivan St between Broome and Spring Sts (212-343-9590,

Aveda Lifestyle Salon
The in-house salon at Aveda, one of the first companies to specialize in all-natural hair care, is by far one of the greenest out there: All of its plant- and flower-based products are produced using sustainable resources. Although many mistakenly believe that eco-conscious products and services are pricier than their synthetic counterparts, a cut at Aveda starts at $45, single-process color at $50, and a luxurious hair-spa treatment at $65. The salon also offers complimentary makeup touch-ups and a hand, head and shoulder massage with all services. 456 West Broadway between W Houston and Prince Sts (212-473-0280,

Iguazu Day Spa
Although it’s helmed by Fabien Azoulay, a former manager at men-only spa Nickel, this small, pristine duplex caters to both sexes and offers everything from partyworthy blowouts (from $48) to pore-suctioning backcials ($118). All treatments (except for the nail services) use 100 percent natural ingredients—so you don’t have to worry about being exposed to harmful chemicals while you’re getting highlights (from $148). 350 Hudson St between Charlton and King Sts (212-647-0007,

Spa Chakra
Formerly Cornelia Day Spa, this newly renovated two-floor oasis is more of a day resort than a salon. With butler service at your beck and call, a rooftop for sunbathing, a convenient in-house caf and outdoor spa treatments—you’re guaranteed to leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. And it uses only top-notch products—that are eco-friendly to boot. All-natural essential oils are used in massages and all facials are done with June Jacobs products, which are paraben- and preservative-free. The spa also gives customers the option of paper or e-mail receipts and is in the process of instituting even more recycling programs. 663 Fifth Ave between 52nd and 53rd Sts (212-871-3050)
