Creatures of the night have long been familiar with the antics of Cazwell and Amanda Lepore—the outlandish gay rapper and the "world's most famous transsexual" have been popping up in various incarnations in NYC bars and clubs for more than a decade. Equally at home in grungy East Village dives and Chelsea megaclubs, the pair is poised to inch ever closer toward mainstream fame this summer. Lepore's debut album, I... Amanda, is out in June, and Cazwell is back at the end of this month with a deluxe reissue of his album Watch My Mouth. (His skin-filled videos for "Ice Cream Truck" and "Get My Money Back" have already drawn more than 3 million YouTube hits combined; not exactly Rebecca Black, but not too shabby.)
You can catch both acts at Highline Ballroom on June 25 for Lepore's album-release party. The Pride weekend show—hosted by Joey Arias, and presented by Daniel Nardicio, Thirsty Girl, Peace Bisquit and Aimee Phillips—will draw fans from the four homo corners of NYC (that's the East and West Villages, Hellsea and Brooklyn). Short story: Get your tickets now. By this time next year, these guys might be opening for Lady Gaga at the Garden. Stranger things have definitely happened.
