Don Sickler and Dameronia

Tadd Dameron, a gifted composer and arranger whose career was sidelined by drugs and prison, then cut short by cancer, is remembered for standards like "Good Bait" and "Hot House." That he's been remembered for so long has a lot to do with the early groundwork of Dameronia, formed in 1981 by drummer Philly Joe Jones with trumpeter-arranger Don Sickler. Jones died in 1985; now Sickler's got the band back together to celebrate what would have been the drum legend's 90th birthday.
