One of the most famous and enduring of all jazz tributes to yuletide, Duke Ellington's great recasting of Tchaikovsky's charming Nutcracker Suite works as well as it does because Ellington was a master of picturesque miniatures akin to those his Russian forebear crafted for the ballet. Here, David Berger leads his crack orchestra, along with students of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, in a seasonal re-creation with plenty of guests.
