Even down one drummer from its earliest NYC engagements, Furthur, a Grateful Dead spin-off fronted by Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, might just be the very best pod off the old mothership: Keyboardist Jeff Chimenti is a well-seasoned hand, guitarist and singer John Kadlecik conveys the spirit of Jerry without slavish imitation, and Joe Russo does the work of two drummers.
