Jane's Addiction, the band that practically invented the notion of "alternative rock," joins indie extraordinaire J Mascis and his pivotal indie crew at this Coney Island gig. The latter play in advance of an upcoming album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, their first since 2011. Mascis augmented his trademark Jazzmaster-scuzz with acoustic Martin strumming on his last three solo records, but we're hoping for more of the straightforward indie riffage on the new record characteristic of Dinosaur Jr's golden years. Assistance comes from a propulsive, starry-eyed Philly band, Nothing, which makes music that's equal parts shoegaze and postpunk.
