Mates of State’s Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel make indie pop that’s almost too joyous. Their cute, bubblegum voices weave around one another until they fall in harmonic step over shimmering synths and glittering piano. Last month, the musicians released Crushes (The Covers Mixtape), featuring their take on Girls, Belle and Sebastian, Fleetwood Mac and others.
