To celebrate International Women's Day, the Astor Center (399 Lafayette St at 4th St; 212-674-7501, is inviting guests of all genders to sample some expertly made cocktails at the Winter Warmer Cocktail Tweetup (6:30--8:30pm). Lynnette Marrero of Rye House will be offering fancy-sounding concoctions (Spice Tree, Orangerie) made with Compass Box whiskeys. The event is hosted by LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails), a group that aims to "create a secular 'coven-like' atmosphere in which Classy Broads of today can invoke and honor the spirits of their Forebroads." Sounds like a pretty good cause to us.

"Men and women have different palates," Marrero, who is also a founding member of LUPEC's New York chapter, recently told The Village Voice. "And it's good to see women shaking and cracking ice, just like the boys."

The event will raise money for Dress for Success, a nonprofit that lends out business suits to disadvantaged women going to job interviews. The $30 ticket price includes two complimentary cocktails—every one after that is $10. So in the name of ladies everywhere, drink up!
