Sweet bird of youth

Nature versus nurture, nature versus culture: Will the debates ever end? Earlier this afternoon, in the southwest-facing pod of our Film, Books and Gay sections, all cultural reportage stopped in honor of our tiny winged visitor, pictured above. A fluffy, handsome baby falcon we named C.C. (in honor of a beloved colleague) landed on the windowsill and stared in at us for an hour. Two frantic phone calls to the city's DEP falcon expert went unreturned, but our wee friend, tired of waiting around to be tagged, soon got up the strength to soar. "I looked into the eyes of that baby falcon, and I saw my familiar," said Film editor Melissa Anderson, paraphrasing Kiki DuRane. Didn't we all, girl.
