We were there: Desilicious

On Friday night, TONY stopped by the monthly queer party held at Rebel. Desilicious, now in its seventh year, has established itself as one of the city's best dance parties—attracting queers from all over. "I came for the night from St. Martin," said Jeff Jhangian, who lives on the Caribbean island and arranged his NYC business trip to coincide with the party. Another partygoer, Fordham senior Marc Girard, has come to the party a few times, "When I first heard that there was a gay Indian party, I knew it was going to be fab." He keeps returning because of the party's welcoming vibe, "It has a sense of belonging."

The party's predominantly Desi boy crowd spent the night dancing to house-music-tinged Indian hits like "Jai Ho" and "Om Shanti Om" (though we did hear Lady Gaga, of course) spun by resident DJs and organizers Ashu Rai and Bobby. Complementing the tunes were fellow Desilicious organizer Neeraj's trippy graphics and Bollywood video snippets (we recognized heartthrob Shahrukh Khan shaking it in one video) projected on screens, and a fabulous performance by Desi drag diva Naina.
