It’s that time of year again, birders! We’re out to spot a remarkable raptor, a heavenly hooter, a superlative strigiform, so grab your binoculars and… wait, what? Sorry. Kerning is sues. Let’s try again: It’s that time of year again, New York City sports fans! That’s right: the game of games, the last NFL matchup until kickoff next September: Super Bowl Sunday is nigh.

This year’s contest will be joined in Las Vegas, and, with a little planning, you can party like a pro in NYC, too, with wings, beer, and nachos, oh yes, but also, maybe, oh no? What if you’re not into all that stuff? Or what if you are but your friends’ aren’t? What if none of your party feels like going to someone’s parents’ house to watch the game on a motion-smoothed TV? Below, you’ll find recommendations for where to watch the Super Bowl like a superb owl at 6:30pm on February 11, with selections that suit every taste, in whichever borough you hoot home.

  • Bars
  • Pubs
  • Bay Ridge
  • price 2 of 4

This is just your everyday, run-of-the-mill Gothic Irish monastery-themed Brooklyn sports pub. The decor and vibes only constitute half the fun; this unique spot has an excellent selection of beers and friendly staff happy to see you for any occasion. Game day specials (including a mega bucket of 20 wings vs the standard 8-count) are sure to be a draw, so book your table in advance.

True to its name, the prices and selection of both food and bev at Sweet Spot are aimed right at sports fans’ creamy center. Wriggle into a leather banquette and tuck into some boneless wings; this is the kind of high-ceilinged, TV-splashed, legroom-having place your sports nut dad wishes existed back in his day, and the ideal place for a group to take in the LVIIth American football championship.

  • Bushwick

Watch the big game on a big projection screen with a big chicken sandwich. Clara’s isn’t trying to be all things to all people, but it still somehow manages the task. The vibes are cool and casual with classic stamped-tin ceilings and low lighting. Think dive bar Christmas Lights rather than Friday Night Lights. Besides good food and ambiance, Clara’s has classic board games, darts and a Ms. Pac-Man table so your less sporty friends can have some fun, too.

  • Harlem

Sister bar to the deservedly popular Harlem Public, At the Wallace is the perfect “what you see is what you get” spot to lose at your Super Bowl squares and still have a really good time. Look ye upon pinball, forgivingly-priced drinks, and a menu offering “cheap shit,” “more shit,” and a house-ground smash burger… and rejoice!

5. IV Purpose

Since opening in 2020, IV Purpose has become a neighborhood favorite. Across two floors, expect true hospitality from the lovely staff serving seasoned Caribbean-inspired fare–a spicy departure that makes old standards feel bland by comparison. There’s plenty of TVs, great vibes, and creative cocktails, so every seat is a good one.

Ralph’s is a Staten Island mainstay, warm and comforting in the best ways. It’s a sports bar, but it’s a comparatively mature sports bar, replete with silverware and tablecloths. With plenty of TVs and a nice selection of beer, cocktails, and the full burger/wing/nachos complement, you can have your classic experience, but the kitchen also serves Italian favorites. This is a crowd-pleaser.

Gym Sportsbar

  • Chelsea
  • price 2 of 4

Since 2005, this multi-level bar has welcomed sports fans of every persuasion with a pool table, good drinks, and attentive staff. Especially for those of the LGBTQIA+ community, Gym offers a perfect safe-space in which to cheer for your team or the halftime show or the commercials; anything, really, as long as you’re polite and tip the bartender.

Amid the flag-festooned and emerald green ephemera, a mind-melting 27 TVs will broadcast 2024’s contest, so there’s not a bad seat in the house. This place celebrates fandom itself. (game day beer-bucket specials of 8 domestic bottles for $35!)

  • Midtown West

Stout has 4 NYC locations, most of which you’ll find in midtown and all of which have an excellent beer selection and relatively understated decor. On the big day, there is a minimum $40-per person tab, but with a $75-per-head reservation (not including tax or tip!), unlimited liquor drinks (not including single-malt whiskeys or shots) and unlimited food are served during the game. Drop that to $65 (not including tax or tip!) for unlimited beer/wine instead.

10. Bronx Drafthouse

Just blocks from the house that replaced the house that Ruth built, the Bronx Drafthouse is a deceptively roomy room. Even non-Yankees fans will find themselves comfy with a draft beer and ample choice of meat between buns.
