  1. Mythic Oil fans will be delighted to hear that the lightweight hair serum has expanded into a full-fledged hair-care line, featuring the same smoothing argan and cottonseed oils in a luxurious shampoo and conditioner. The former detangles strands as you lather, while the latter solidifies their newfound silky texture—don’t be surprised if your showermate claims them as his or her own. L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil Nourishing shampoo and conditioner, $27 each, at Ted Gibson Salon, 184 Fifth Ave at 23rd St, second floor (212-633-6333)

  2. We did a double take when we first saw this duo’s budget-friendly price tag, but we were even more incredulous at the shampoo and conditioner’s performance, which rivals that of a high-end salon version. Shine-boosting Moroccan argan oil is the star ingredient, supported by sweet-almond and coconut oils that help create silken strands. Expect a luxurious lather, lovely perfumed scent and soft, manageable hair. Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine shampoo and conditioner, $3 each, at Walgreens, locations throughout the city; visit walgreens.com

Although it’s designed for dry, damaged follicles, this restorative duo is lightweight enough to not overburden healthy hair. Apricot, camelina and coriander oils deeply penetrate and coat strands for added glossiness, while the heavenly scent serves as perfume for your hair. Redken Diamond Oil shampoo, $18; and conditioner, $19; both at Cutler Salon, 465 West Broadway between W Houston and Prince Sts (212-308-3838) • 47 W 57th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves, second floor (212-308-3838) • 420 Park Ave South at 29th St (212-308-3838)

  4. Don’t let the mildness of this shampoo fool you: Although it produces a light lather and has a scent so subtle it’s almost indiscernible, the sulfate-free formula is nourishing enough for dry, color-treated hair. The lightweight conditioner is also packed with reparative keratin, argan and amla oils, and leaves locks immediately silky and soft, as if you’d just had a deep-conditioning treatment. Sally Hershberger Hyper Hydration Super Keratin shampoo and conditioner, $9 each, at Duane Reade, locations throughout the city; visit duanereade.com

  5. The pungent, mentholesque fragrance of this sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner may not be for everyone, but those with less-sensitive noses will be rewarded with frizz-free locks. An extension of Italian hair-care company Davines’ popular OI/Oil serum, the twosome features Amazonian roucou oil, which is said to help strengthen strands, making them ideal for anyone trying to grow out their hair. Davines OI shampoo, $26; and conditioner, $32; both at Takamichi Hair, 263 Bowery between E Houston and Stanton Sts, second floor (212-420-7979)

  6. Seriously dry strands are brought back from the dead with the help of this gelatinous shampoo, whose mix of moringa, macadamia, coconut and almond oils is so quenching, you won’t really need to use its airy companion conditioner. Our tester reported noticeably softer hair after just one use. Biolage ExquisiteOil Micro-Oil shampoo, $18; and ExquisiteOil Creme conditioner, $19; both at J Christopher Salon, 43 Seventh Ave between 13th and 14th Sts (212-929-5505)

  7. Creatures of habit who are intrigued by but hesitant to embrace the latest hair-care trends can test the oil-infused waters with this update on an old classic. The pair features the same creamy consistency, rich lather and fruity-floral scent you’re familiar with, but gets kicked up a notch with the addition of argan oil, promising a frizz-free mane for up to 72 hours. Pantene Pro-V Smooth shampoo and conditioner with argan oil, $4, at CVS, locations throughout the city; visit cvs.com

  8. A triple threat of argan, white-grape and marula oils is central to these smoothing products, which differentiate themselves from the competition in two ways: a musky-fruity fragrance and traces of pulverized mica that help refract light and create a radiant mane. göt2b Oil-licious Opulent Smooth shampoo and Golden Shimmer conditioner, $6 each, at Ulta, 61-35 Junction Blvd between Horace Harding Expwy and 62nd Dr, Rego Park, Queens (718-699-9004, ulta.com)

  9. Celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita tends to the manes of megastars such as Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston, yet rather than sell his first hair-care line at chi-chi salons, he’s chosen to debut it exclusively at discount warehouse chain Costco—for an accessible price, to boot. The package deal includes a shampoo, conditioner and hair oil that each contain a hydrating blend of avocado, coconut, sweet-almond and argan oils. We found that the vanilla-scented trio works best in concert, making hair smoother and shinier after each subsequent step. Orlando Pita Argan Haircare Collection (includes Argan Gloss shampoo, Argan Gloss conditioner and Argan Rejuvenating hair treatment oil), $17, at Costco, locations throughout the city; visit costco.com
