15 photos from Getty's archive that’ll make you love NYC even more

Last week, the massive photo service opened up the bulk of its collection for free use. Here are our favorites shots of New York City.

Last week's news that Getty Images was making 35 million of its images free for online use caused mixed reactions. Photographers were chagrined, since no extra revenue would be coming their way, skeptics wondered what personal data the embeddable photo widget would collect, and bloggers—like us—rejoiced. The site holds more than 100 years' worth of beautiful photography, and its paywall going down opens up a lot of high-quality images for use on pages exactly like these.

We've gathered 15 drop-dead gorgeous images of our home to remind you exactly why you love New York City. With iconic views like the sun-dappled Brooklyn Bridge and the High Line on a perfect spring day (coming soon, we promise!) now up for grabs sans watermark, it's hard not to celebrate the photo service's change in policy.
