No, we’re not joking. A safe swim in the East River could become a reality. Here’s how you can help raise funds for the initiative.

+ POOL project
Remember that Seinfeld episode where Kramer starts swimming in the East River? You know, because he’s so crazy and wacky?
An initiative called + POOL hopes to make taking a dip in the polluted waterway a not-so-insane proposition. How? By creating a floating, plus-sign-shaped pool that works—to quote one of the peeps interviewed in the promo video below—like “giant Brita filter.” (Check out renderings of the project above.) Thing is, they need money. After launching a successful Kickstarter campaign, which accumulated more than $40,000, organizers are looking to raise an additional $500,000 in order to build mock-ups and pitch the idea to the city. Chip in and find more info at + POOL’s site.
