New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. People panic about not getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise, there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these affordable apartments in NYC—but do it quickly, because they will be gone before you know it. Come back next week for more of our top picks from real-estate site Zumper’s inventory. And if you’re still struggling, try our NYC apartments guide.

29-28 41st Ave #405

Four-bedroom in Long Island City, $4,100/month ($1,025 per person)

We’re not sure if we’re looking at some kind of dance studio or just a massive apartment, but either way, we’ll take it. Aside from the aforementioned spaciousness, this Queens penthouse (!) boasts granite counters, two marble bathrooms and lofted ceilings, plus the added bonuses of rooftop access and a fitness center in the building.

243 Henry St #12

Three-bedroom in Chinatown, $3,500/month ($1,167 per person)

You’ll have a much easier time staving off seasonal affective disorder at this megasunny downtown flat; it’s a south-facing corner unit, so it gets tons of light. Plus, it’s recently renovated with new kitchen cabinets, hardwood floors and high ceilings, not to mention you’ll be surrounded by all the cheap dumplings and noodles your heart desires.

Two-bedroom in Crown Heights, $2,000/month ($1,000 per person)

Two words: back patio. We can already picture ourselves cracking a cold one and relaxing into one of those ergonomic lawn chairs (fingers crossed they come with the place) at this Crown Heights abode. The interior doesn’t look so bad either, with a good amount of sunlight, parquet floors and what appear to be pretty sizable bedrooms.

Three-bedroom in Park Slope, $3,100/month ($1,033 per person)

Anyone who’s apartment-hunted in Park Slope knows that this is a killer price (blame all those ubercompetitive parents angling to get a foothold). And the place looks super nice, too: Aside from the usual suspects (hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances), it also has a dishwasher, a huge finished basement and an adorable backyard. Hello, summer barbecues!

Three-bedroom in Hell’s Kitchen, $3,483/month ($1,161 per person)

The West Side is blowing up, so you’d do well to nab this luxurious pad before rent prices catch up. In addition to a roomy layout (we haven’t seen that much floor space in a bedroom since…well, ever), the building has more amenities than you can shake a stick at: garage parking, a bike room, a gym and a concierge service.
