BAM's Steinberg Screen

Great news, Brooklyn cinéastes: Starting tomorrow, you can sit back and enjoy a flick (ahem, sorry, a film) inside the BAM Harvey Theater, a tiered, 800-plus-seat venue popular for staging plays and concerts. You’re probably asking yourself, But how is this possible, oh wise one? Because of the high-end Steinberg Screen, which debuts during this year’s BAMcinemaFest. (We broke down which fest selections you need to see.)

The screen is 35 feet by 19 feet (dimensions BAM reps claim makes it the biggest one in Brooklyn to boast both 3-D and 2-D capabilities), and the theater will be outfitted with 42 surround-sound speakers. Aside from BAMcinemaFest, you can catch showings on the new screen during upcoming series like the Hitchcock 9 (June 29–July 3), which shows silent Hitch films alongside live musical accompaniment, and Big Screen Epics (July 3–23), which programs classics like The Godfather and 2001: A Space Odyssey, not to mention new movies such as Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (opens July 26).
