The Moonman will touch down in Prospect Heights this summer. Take that, Manhattan!

Today, MTV announced that the much-watched Video Music Awards are headed to the Barclays Center for the event's 30th year, marking the first time a major awards show will take place in Brooklyn. We couldn’t have thought of a better location—but then, of course, we may be slightly biased.

The VMAs last took place in NYC four years ago, when Beyoncé won Video of the Year for her iconic “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” and Kanye West infamously ruined Taylor Swift’s moment in the spotlight like a big ol’ jerk.
The Barclays Center, which was christened with a series of concerts from Beyoncé’s hubby, Jay-Z, opened last September to much fanfare. (Let’s hope Jay, who’s part owner of the arena, will sit Kanye down and establish some ground rules for this year's event.) Ticket info is still TBA, but the show is set to air live on Sunday, August 25. Whether from the arena or from our TVs, you best believe we’ll be watching.
