City stories: Kervin Sanchez, 38; Harlem

A sidewalk interview with a 38-year-old New Yorker: “My favorite part of my job is the hours, from three o’clock in the morning to 12 o’clock in the afternoon”

What brought you to the neighborhood?
I’ve been here 33 years; my whole family is here. And I work for City College doing building maintenance. I’ve been doing it for seven years now, so I know it like the palm of my hand.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
The hours: from three o’clock in the morning to 12 o’clock in the afternoon. And then I’m done, and I can walk around the neighborhood, enjoy the weather.

Do your kids have a better neighborhood to grow up in than you did?
It depends on what you teach your kids. We need more kids to focus on what they’ve got to do.

What’s something we wouldn’t know about you just by looking at you?
Me? I’m a very humble person. Very, very humble.
