A sidewalk interview with a post-audition New Yorker: "The auditioning and trying out is the work; the work itself is the vacation"

Where are you coming from right now?
I was just auditioning for Flashdance [the musical].

How do you think it went?
I don’t know. They keep calling me back. I’ve had so many auditions this week, but rejection happens all the time. The auditioning and trying out is the work; the work itself, when you get a part, is the vacation.

If you had one wish, what would it be?
To provide for myself and my family for the rest of our lives.

It sounds like family is very important to you.
My dad sells contact lenses and my mom teaches special ed to kindergartners. That gets kind of violent, actually.
