In the three years since graphic designer Paul Darragh and producer Casey Steele founded Manhattan Born (336 E 5th St between First and Second Aves; 212-677-3823, bornshop.co), the East Village design studio has created billboards for Sephora and MAC, and video spots for Ray-Ban and Skittles. The firm expands upon its creative capabilities with an assortment of home decor, inspired by and made in NYC. While we’re smitten with the collection’s manhole-cover coasters and ornate laser-cut place mats, the company’s star offering is undoubtedly its Friend Head series, in which passport-style photographs are transformed into custom portraits via art prints and 3-D wall hangings.
