Sick of sitting inside your chilly apartment listening to haunted radiator noises? The Brooklyn waterfront is where it’s at this winter. Industry City, located in the heart of Brooklyn in Sunset Park, is the place to be when the weather is less than stellar. Whether you’re a food lover, outdoor enthusiast, athlete, art appreciator or all of the above, Industry City has winter-friendly activities to keep you loving New York all year round. Here’s why Industry City is the place to be this winter – start planning your weekends accordingly.

1. Ice skate outdoors

The outdoor IC Ice Rink is open Thursdays-Sundays for a winter experience with all the creature comforts. That is, twinkle lights and plenty of photo opps. Tickets are $10, plus $12 if you need to rent skates. A bag check is also available so you can freely spin across the ice. Once the Winter Olympics kick off, you’ll want to try your skills on this rink. And speaking of the Olympics, stay tuned for IC’s Olympic-viewing programing, which is sure to be gold medal worthy. For the full winter experience warm up with a hot chocolate or hot toddy rink-side from the Wheelhouse by Frying Pan.

2. Appreciate incredible art installations

Looking for a splash of color to add to the monotone of winter? Industry City houses a robust collection of public art, galleries and rotating installations. This February Jen Lewin has brought her traveling installation, The Pool, to Courtyard 1/2, starring 106 interactive circular pads that light up with human movement. Later this month Adam Frezza + Terri Chiao, also known as CHIAOZZA will install their second piece at IC, the first being the Zen Garden sculptures that were displayed in Courtyard 3/4. Stroll campus-wide with the Art Tour Map, which guides you through understanding each piece and its artist.

We live in uncertain times, and if you prefer to socialize outside, Industry City is here for that. With three courtyards with heating, plus tents with plenty of air flow, the courtyards at Industry City offer ample space to enjoy hot eats from the Food Hall. Warm up with Korean comfort from Ejen, Mexican street fare from Taco Mix, dine in or to-go from Sahadi's, a James Beard award-winning restaurant, hearty vegan eats from Renegades of Sunset and more. Be serenaded by live music as you watch the sunset over the East River or look for stars after dark at one of four outdoor fire pits.

4. Support your local distillers and brewers

Industry City’s Courtyard 5/6 is the proud home to local makers, brewing and distilling spirits, beer and sake. See the process, try the produce, and sprawl out into the aforementioned courtyards to enjoy the boozy fruits of our neighbors’ labor. Taste your way through Brooklyn Kura’s sake, Barrow’s Intense ginger liqueur, Big Alice’s small cask craft brews, Standard Wormwood’s house made spirits and more.
