Soufrire, St. Lucia, West Indies
We can’t help but recommend one exotic trip, especially when there’s delicious West Indian food at the other end. The town of Soufrire offers an affordable orgy of Creole fare: fiery jerk pork at Martha’s Tables (, with killer views of the Petit Piton, and curry chicken stew with sweet and sticky plantains at the Mango Tree (758-458-9000). For a splurge, tuck into the rum-and-banana cheesecake at Dasheene at the Ladera resort, a former cocoa plantation with jungle-meets-ocean views.

Sag Harbor, Long Island
On Saturday mornings, local farmers descend on Sag Harbor, the laid-back picturesque Long Island whaling town.
