Big news, market fans: Queens is getting its very own waterfront destination. LIC Flea & Food ( is set to open June 15. Three vendors have been confirmed so far: Malu Ice Cream (, Italian restaurant Manducati’s Rustica ( and art gallery Matted, with approximately 100 expected to be on board for the launch.

Don't be fooled by the bucolic scene of Gantry Plaza State Park in the image above—Flea & Food will actually be located in a 24,000-square-foot parking lot down the block, at 46th Avenue and 5th Street. (If you're spatially challenged like us, it might help to know that the Brooklyn Flea location in Fort Greene covers 40,000 square feet.) Still, there should be a pleasant breeze off the East River and a magnificent view of the skyline, rivaling that of the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg's spot in Williamsburg.

There's also the potential for a pleasant weekend pleasure cruise during the summer: The East River Ferry alights near the market in Long Island City and also makes stops at the Williamsburg Waterfront, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Governors Island.
