Two of the biggest problems in modern moviemaking are an overreliance on special effects and also insisting on having the actors talk. Pioneering filmmaker Max Linder understood this, and made great movies without the use of a green screen or, it turns out, sound. FIAF screens Seven Years Bad Luck and three shorts.
