“I play basketball at the Astoria Park courts (19th St from Astoria Park South to Ditmars Blvd, Astoria, Queens; nycgovparks.org/parks/astoriapark) in my old neighborhood. The scenery is nice; you can see the full Manhattan skyline. Older, more experienced players hoop there, so there’s competition if you like playing.”

“My favorite store is probably Sport’s Lane (31-68 Steinway St between Broadway and 31st Ave, Astoria, Queens; 718-777-5999). They give you two pairs of sneakers for $150. I used to have a lot of sneakers, about 30 pairs—Nike, Dunks, a few Jordans. But I cut back on sneakers and just buy the stuff I need.”

Tammany Hall Tavern (218 E 53rd St between Second and Third Aves; 212-355-6607, tammanyhalltavern.com) is a good place to party. You don’t have to be 21 [to get in]. They play really good music like house and techno. And new hip-hop—you know, for people who like Drake.”

  5. “I go to the movies a lot. My favorite is the Kaufman theater (UA Kaufman Astoria Cinema 14, 35-30 38th St between 35th and 36th Aves, Astoria, Queens; 800-326-3264). If you know people, they hook you up with cheap tickets. No, I can’t get the deal on the popcorn. The nachos, you’re going to have to help yourself out with that one.”
