Ready, set, shhh: The New York Times crowdsources quiet places in NYC
The Gray Lady asks locals to share their favorite tranquil refuges within the five boroughs.
Peaceful, relatively people-free spots for silence in New York City are a rare and precious thing. But now the Times wants us to spill our collective guts and pinpoint (literally) our favorite respites for an interactive map project.
On one hand, our curiosity is piqued: Are there fortresses of solitude that we've yet to discover? (Call us nosy, but we always like to know what our fellow denizens are up to.) At the same time, we can't imagine people are eager to divulge their hideaways, lest the hordes descend.
