Remember hockey? Get ready for the New York Rangers to return this weekend

The NHL kicks off its shortened season this Saturday (and hits MSG Sunday).

Dust off your Messier jersey and get ready to cheer on the Rangers again: The lockout-shortened 48-game season kicks off Saturday, January 19, when the team travels to play the Boston Bruins. The next night the squad comes to Madison Square Garden for a game against the Penguins. As you might remember (or not, hockey is rather under the radar these days), the Blueshirts made it to the Eastern Conference championships last season, losing in crushing fashion to the Devils. Needless to say, expectations are high (hopefully all-star goalie Henrik Lundqvist did more than rummaging and noodling on the guitar over the extended break).

Will they take it all the way to the Stanley Cup? Will you be able to score/afford a ticket? If so, where will you drink before the game?

Lucky for you, we can answer that last question, at least, with our guides to the best bars in Midtown West and East (as well as Times Square if you're inclined to brave the tourist hordes).

Need further convincing? One YouTuber put together a video preview for the 2013 season, which should do an adequate job of getting you amped up. After all, it's set to Linkin Park (just go with it…hockey!).
