Report: The Coney Island Astrotower may be demolished tonight
NY1 has reported that the 50-year-old attraction will come down tonight.

Talk about bad timing: Yesterday, after some noticable swaying from the Coney Island Astrotower, some amusements in the area—including Luna Park, the Cyclone and the Wonder Wheel—were closed so engineers could inspect the decades-old attraction. The rides remained closed today, and now, NY1 is reporting that the Astrotower will be demolished tonight so that the surrounding attractions can reopen for the Fourth of July festivities tomorrow. It'd be a sad day for Coney: Even though the Astrotower hasn't been a functioning ride for a while now, it's one of the amusement park's iconic (if odd) attractions.
We've reached out to the folks at Luna Park for confirmation, and will update if/when we hear back. (h/t Runnin' Scared)
