Study finds that NYC is the most fashionable city in the world
According to research that tracks fashion-related mentions online, Gotham is the most stylish city—but you already knew that

Though NYC doesn’t look too pretty under today's puddles of sleet and slush, we've gotta say our residents still look beautiful even in strategically bundled ensembles—and research concurs. According to the Global Language Monitor's annual ranking of fashion capitals, New York is officially the most fashionable city in the world. The study analyzed certain keywords (best designers, most stylish, etc.) that appeared online—on websites, blogs, news outlets and even social media—to come to this conclusion.
Based on findings from 2013, we squeezed past Paris—which won the title for haute couture—by a mere .05 percent, leaving the City of Light in second place. London, the 2011 and 2012 defending champ, was bumped down to third. Notable runners-up include Los Angeles (No. 4), Shanghai (No. 10), New Delhi (No. 22) and Cape Town (No. 27), and it's cool to note the latter two both jumped up more than 20 spots from last year’s survey.
The Global Language Monitor's fashion director, Bekka Payak, said NYC rightfully earned its title “through its disciplined, methodical yet creative approach to its fashion industry.” There’s no denying that’s true: New stores and designers sprout up constantly, multiple fashion events are hosted here throughout the year, Manhattan is a world-renowned shopping mecca—and now Brooklyn’s fashion scene is on the rise, too. (Alexander Wang’s Fashion Week show will be held at the Brooklyn Navy Yard). Plus, New Yorkers are super stylish—and we don't need a fancy study to tell us that. With Fashion Week starting tomorrow, we’re expecting our news feeds to overflow with #OOTD pics geotagged from Lincoln Center to Williamsburg.
