The clock is ticking down for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade’s Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the 30th annual march, after Coney Island USA’s headquarters were decimated by Hurricane Sandy. And with 13 days to go, the organizers are almost $25,000 short of their $100,000 goal.

If you don’t want this beloved freakfest to sleep with the fishes, there’s one guaranteed fun way to help out: Shell out a very reasonable $25 for a ticket to the Save the Mermaid Parade benefit show this Saturday, May 25, at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring the reigning queen of the sideshow aesthetic, Amanda Palmer. Look for appearances from filmmaker Abel Ferrara, electropop outfit Beautiful Small Machines, local rockers Spanking Charlene and the cast of the Coney Island Sideshow.

And even if you can’t make it to the show this weekend, drop a little cash the Kickstarter’s way. As event founder Dick Zigun says in the video below, “A year without the Mermaid Parade? That’s a year without summertime.”
