Welcome to Night Vale to be released as a book

Good news for fans of the delightfully morbid podcast: A novel is in the works.

When we spoke with Welcome to Night Vale creators Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor a few months ago, they told us that the expansion of their idiosyncratic world into another medium beyond podcasting was “basically certain.” The teaser didn’t disappoint: Today, Harper Perennial announced that the pair will pen a novel based on its show, due to be released in the fall of 2015.

Details are still in the offing, but we can’t wait to see what Fink and Cranor’s small desert town—where bizarre and existentially troubling things happen on the hour—looks like in print. Will we still see the world through the eyes of Night Vale’s largehearted, existence-of-mountains-denying radio host Cecil? And will we finally find out what’s up with those mysterious lights over the Arby’s?

In the meantime, tide yourself over with a pair of sold-out live shows at the Bell House this Wednesday (if you managed to nab tickets in time) and a new episode (“The Auction”) that came out on Saturday.
