Williamsburg music venue 285 Kent to close January 19

Sad news: After rumors that the space’s days were numbered, 285 Kent will host its final shows this month

We're sad to learn that the rumors surrounding 285 Kent have been confirmed: The venue will host its last show on January 19. Though concerns that the Maria Minerva gig last month would be the space's last turned out to be a false alarm, Pitchfork has announced the DIY institution will close its doors after a four-night, 25-band string of concerts.

Launched in 2010 by promoter Todd P., Williamsburg's 285 Kent has hosted Odd Future, Frank Ocean, Grimes, and countless others spanning music genres and levels of fame. Though Todd P. hasn't released an official statement, it's safe to assume the venue's closing has to do with its gentrifying surroundings, as well as mounting pressure from authorities in regards to the space's off-the-books nature. Check out a new interview with Kent's concert booker Ric Leichtung in The Fader for more on the closure.

As for those final shows? Fucked Up, DIIV, Autre Ne Veut, Dan Deacon, Laurel Halo and lots more acts will play (full schedule follows), and we recommend you pick up tickets ASAP to pay your respects in person to the sweaty, hallowed warehouse.
