Day: Philadelphia (2hrs from NYC by bus)

Weekend: Baltimore (3hrs from NYC by Amtrak)
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore, a turning point in the War of 1812, the city will host a plethora of events starting June 13, when a parade of 40-plus tall ships sails into the city’s Inner Harbor (starspangledbaltimore.com). Stop by newcomer Ada Street (773-697-7069, adastreetchicago.com), tucked away on a quiet strip in Noble Square, for small plates such as Southern-fried quail with bacon gravy.
