As part of the opening weekend of his two-venue exhibition, Tom Rankin will give a presentation at 7 pm Saturday, April 16, at the Bush Auditorium, Rollins College, Winter Park.

Please join us for a reception before the presentation from 5-6:30 pm Saturday, April 16, at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.

Both the reception and lecture are free and open to the public.

For more than 25 years, Tom Rankin has photographed rural churches and sacred spaces in the South -- the structures, the grounds, the worshipers, the baptisms, the burials. He returns again and again to the same places, documenting the effects of time and weather in powerful large-scale, black-and-white, film-based photographs that he shoots with an 8 x 10 large format camera.

This is an enduring project for Rankin, the former director of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University in North Carolina, where he has lived for many years. This two-venue exhibition represents the long-term fascination and relationshp that the Kentucky native has developed with church communities throughout the South over more than two decades.
