The event creator says
“The world is made up of stories, not atoms,” Muriel Rukeyser, poet and lyrical storyteller. A Renaissance is upon us. In these high-tech times people are hungry for the “high touch” immediacy, intensity and intimacy of face-to-face storytelling. Places like The Moth in New York City; The Stanford Story Telling Project in California; the Telling Project (part of Bob Woodruff Foundation), using storytelling to connect combat vets with their communities and heal the trauma of war, are inspiring a new generation to learn the aesthetic pleasure and healing power of spoken narrative. Storytelling 2016! is a show held on the last Saturday of every month (from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. with live music following) at Sleeping Moon Café, 451 N. Semoran Blvd., Winter Park (at the corner of Aloma and SR 436, next to Aveda Hair Institute.) Storytelling 2016! is a professional show, not an open mic and not a “slam.” Each month, some of the best storytellers in Florida will take stage to mesmerize us with stories told in vivid, often poetic, language. Stories will be humorous, haunting, romantic, quirky, surreal, poignant, unforgettable. They will touch our hearts and our imaginations. Material is geared to audience members 18 years and older. There is no cost to get in, but we ask that you buy some of the great food and drink available at Sleeping Moon to show our gratitude for the venue.

Our goal is to make live storytelling as entertaining as going to a movie, a play, a concert or a sporting event.

The show is hosted by Florida storyteller Tim Rumsey. For more info on Storytelling 2016! or if you are a storyteller who would like to perform at one of our 2016 nights, e-mail Tim at timothyrumsey@yahoo.com or call him at 321-279-2717. Mark your calendar!

Story Telling 2016! is another offering from Writers of Central Florida or Thereabouts, a group sponsoring open mics, forums for writers and performers, storytelling practice sessions and workshops for varied audiences, and more.
