Ethan Murrow, 'Sans titre'

American artist Ethan Murrow presents his surreal, animal-themed pencil sketches.

Superimposed on blustery landscapes inspired by his native state of Vermont, the strange animal characters and surrealism of American artist Ethan Murrow’s detailed pencil sketches plunge the spectator into a weird and perplexing dreamland. In it, he not only plays around with perspectives in true trompe-l’oeil style, but also revels in creating comically absurd scenarios, like two men attempting to haul a beached walrus onto a dated Oldsmobile against a cloudy seaside backdrop. Fittingly titled ‘Hankering for the Past’, this Paris exhibition comes across like a long-lost diary of a particularly imaginative child, who, fed up with life, finds solace in scribbling down his most peculiar visions.
