The Nuits de l'Alligator festival, held annually at La Maroquinerie, rarely disappoints; every year, it's a case of sifting through a stellar lineup to pick the cream of the crop. This time round – without wanting to do disservice to the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, American singer-songwriter Adam Green or eclectic blues man Bosco Delrey – we're most excited about the beautiful vocals of Bror Gunnar Jansson and Sarah McCoy, who'll be performing on the same Valentine's Day bill. Bror (a.k.a. Gugges Enmanna) cites Lightnin' Hopkins as an influence, though he tends perhaps closer to the blues-punk of Jon Spencer or Johnny Walker (of Soledad Brothers fame). McCoy's voice, meanwhile, is as big as her public presence is small: despite a clutch of music videos, in which her terrific musicality is on full display, the jazzy singer-songwriter remains almost unknown on the gigging circuit. That's about to change.
