Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

The window of the little deli attached to Les Montagnards is what lures you in, with its salamis, cheeses (Mont d’Or, Reblochon, Brézain), beer, pots of honey and other local products. Suddenly, Alpine peaks don’t seem quite so far from the 1st arrondissement; the large dining room evokes a chalet with its pale wooden walls and checked tablecloths, ceiling hooks hung with strings of sausages inherited from the site’s former incarnation as a butcher.

In the all-important fondue, generous handfuls of morel mushrooms float on top of 500g of cheese (for two), scooped up with thin slices of dried beef and hunks of bread. Wash it all down with a bottle of Chignin Bergeron 2010 (a white from Savoie), followed by ‘artisanal ice cream from the Alps’ with a shot of Chartreuse. This is simple cooking with quality products, producing great dishes at good prices.
