Serving homely Mediterranean cooking to take away, Mezz is housed in a clean and chic space hard by the Canal Saint Martin. French, Moroccan and Greek influences can all be found in the serried ranks of colourful, well-designed little boxes and sachets on display. There’s no question of a starter, main and dessert, rather you take the convivial Southern small plate approach. Choose one of the their set mezze formulas (from €10.50 to €15) – made up of things like bright green tabbouleh, feta and black olive salad, lemony bulgur salad, hummus with pomegranate seeds, tzatziki and taramasalata. Scoop it all up with a piece of pita bread and team it with dumplings – spicy beef, chicken with mint, lemon and pine nuts, or falafel.
The house lemonade is a perfect accompaniment, or you can pick up bottles of ouzo or salted yoghurt drink to take away. Finish off with sweet things like greek yoghurt, creamy desserts flavoured with orange blossom water and topped with pistachios, or a Portuguese nata tart. Lunch here is quick and full of the good health and sunshine that Paris often lacks.
