The concept may have launched in the US but when it comes to spinning, Paris is firmly in the saddle. Part rave, part Tour de France, spinning is now one of the trendiest way to burn calories. We donned our tightest shorts and went undercover to try out the best spinning classes in Paris.

Get prepared for the ride of your life...

Kiwill - Pure energy

Kiwill's door asks, "MAKE YOUR BODY GREAT AGAIN, DO YOU KIWILL?". 'Ki' meaning 'energy' in Japanese, and 'will' for willpower pretty much sum up the vibe of this studio, not far from Oberkampf on rue du Grand Prieuré.

Nude black and white portraits of a toned and handsome man line the walls. "That's Mickael. He's a co-founder here and dancer at the Opéra de Paris. His classes always get booked several days in advance..." It's not hard to fathom why with this kind of home-grown publicity.

Help yourself to an apple, grab a water bottle - everyone here is very relaxed and smiley. Inspirational quotes follow you around the studio like Ali's "Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion."

Let's Ride - Design-led

Let’s Ride. The name of this year-old spinning studio (with another branch on the way soon) is emblazoned everywhere.. Encouraging and peppy, just like the concept.

First impression is that it could be a lifestyle boutique / coworking space, and a high-end one at that. The staff greet you at the reception; their own-brand sportsgear available for purchase on the left; a chill area to the right, with juice-stocked fridges, people (unsure if they worked there or not) busying themselves with iPads and magazines. Malin + Goetez candles burn in each corner of the room and pretty posies of wild flowers add to the scent.

Dynamo - Rave-revolution

Dynamo looks like the sport of the future. White lacquered everything, smart locker system and all-the-extras provided - they’ve finely tuned everything as well as the bodies of the instructors.

The first spinning studio in Paris (one at Opéra in the 2nd, another in Boétie in the 8th), Dynamo claim to have revolutionised spinning by offering a complete body work. The proof is in the pudding; the staff (and several clients) showcase bodies that might even make Karlie Kloss raise an eyebrow.

The latest club anthems welcome 30+ bodies into the dark, accentuated with a few (real) candles. The lack of light makes installing yourself and adjusting the seat tricky, but the staff will obligingly help.
