CULT FICTION – Fringe World Festival
Cinematic sin for thrill seeking audiences

Cult Fiction pays homage to the double-feature Grindhouse films from the birth of cinema through to the 1970s. Exploitative cinema that will tantalise your every forbidden thrill & fantasy. “These films had a strong carnie spirit of exploitation” explains producer Kelly Cook. “They would capitalise on what was controversial of their time, pull out themes that audiences would pay to see and merge them together in a loose storyline.”
“They were cheaply made smut and horror shows but have become a huge influence on our culture and creative history”

The LIVE cabaret tribute to the 'Grindhouse' explores the sometimes subversive, unusual, despised & honoured film classics of times past, popular themes throughout our film history such as Mondo exotica, Sex, Violence, B-grade horror flicks, science fiction & Badly Dubbed Hong Kong Martial Arts Film.

It's quite fitting that the show will play within Northbridge's old IMAX theatre, now converted into a theatre for live events. The Empyrean function centre & Metcalfe playhouse will treat audiences to air conditioning, cheese platters & comfortable high back seats – a contrast to the seedy, dark grindhouse theatres of the past.
