Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) says
With acclaimed talent such as Tim Minchin, Triple-J Unearthed Artist of the Year Meg Mac, 2016 Tamworth Toyota Star Maker winner Karin Page and 2013 Telstra Road To Discovery winner Helen Shanahan amongst the alumni of WAAPA’s Contemporary Music course, it makes you wonder what other talent is bubbling away just under the surface.

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Allens Linklaters and Kosmic Sound presents Radio Active, the annual Contemporary Music showcase. RADIO ACTIVE features a diverse repertoire covering all musical bases from pop to rock, R ‘n’ B to soul and featuring the acclaimed WAAPA Gospel Choir in a spectacularly produced concert with a huge cast of talented young musicians and singers.

This amazing group of talented contemporary music students will be directed by highly acclaimed WAAPA staff members; award-winning Australian Session Drummer Ric Eastman (Human Nature, WASO, Thelma Houston, Lee Konitz, Ernie Watts and the Jazz Australia Big Band), Course Coordinator for Contemporary Music Mike Eastman, and in-demand singer/recording artist (Top 10 in the Australian Songwriting Awards, Runner up International Song Contest and Semi-Finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest) and WAAPA’s Head of Contemporary Vocal Studies, Matt Allen.

In this fully produced concert, involving incredible Lighting and Sound design by WAAPA's amazing Production & Design students, WAAPA celebrates 50 years of radio hits as over 40 students make these much–loved classics their own.
