The 2018 Time Out Philadelphia Bar Awards winners
Exposed brick walls juxtaposed with modern finishings characterizes this hip distilling company, which is housed in a former factory in Fishtown. The claim to fame here is that Philadelphia Distilling is the first post-Prohibition distillery in this city. They’re behind creations such as Bluecoat American Dry Gin, Vieux Carré Absinthe and Penn 1681 Vodka—all of which can be found in state liquor stores and in many of the best bars in Philadelphia. Or you can just sidle up to the bar at Philadelphia Distilling and have one of their mixologists whip you up a cocktail in the very place where these spirits were born.
Judge’s take: Philadelphia Distilling didn‘t take home any awards this year, but it’s clear its making a splash: the Fishtown distillery was the most-nominated non-winning venue, meaning that it showed on every judge’s scorecard, yet always in different categories. Among its nominations were biggies like Bar of the Year and Best New Bar. It was also nominated for Best Crew, and two of its cocktails, Ninth Street and the Violet Fizz, were up for Best Cocktail and Most Instagrammable Cocktail, respectively. Congrats, guys. Keep up the great work!
